Stephen House
I embarked on my construction career in July 1996, undertaking my apprenticeship with Mr. Harry Friar at Friar Development Ltd in South East London.
Over 22 years, I predominantly subcontracted for Mr. Friar, contributing to diverse construction projects. From groundwork and brickwork to crafting foundations, erecting timber frame structures, and creating new builds, each endeavor presented a unique construction challenge.
My scope extended to interiors, encompassing ceilings, floors, doors, kitchens, landscaping, driveways, gates, fencing, swimming pools, decking, roofing, and extensions.
During that time I also worked on private gardens, one of which won a Bromley in Bloom award in 2007.
Landscaping is a favourite passion transforming space to be visually appealing but the creation having a useful function too. Garden sheds have become great fun in fresh design and creating talking points. Insulating sheds/ cabins makes them fully usable all year round.
Peace Culture Children's House Montessori Pre-School was a personal project to make a functioning duel space as a flourishing garden and one that adapts to the wear and tear of children.
I have been involved in working with the artist Tareg Morris on her various art installations one being in the Eden Project, the last one being in Truro Cathedral. I have worked on Church installations and repairs for All Saints Church in Orpington, Kent. Gym and Nursery School fencing. Garden office installations and other small domestic projects. A memorial garden and a wildlife garden having special significance for the owners.
I enjoy up-cycling on builds too. Fun projects include The Truro Placeshaping project which required the forming and making of 13 tin men installed around Truro Town Centre. After removing decaying wooden play equipment from Perran-ar-worthal School, I salvaged the good pieces of wood left and gave the school two new up-cycled benches for their playground.
The making of all the diverse construction briefs including bespoke sign boards I have produced have been most rewarding. I am committed to working hard and being trusted to deliver to each client a high standard of workmanship. No project is ever too small.
Recent current requests have been for solid handmade wooden bed frames and adapted bespoke wooden units for the elderly to make every day tasks easier. It has been great working with The Juniper Club and creating their bespoke wooden Cornish map signage too.
I look forward to hearing from you with whatever you may wish to construct.
